Chevalier’s Very Own Darryl Holter Honors 2016 Nobel Literature Laureate, Bob Dylan, with Holter on Dylan Night of Music

As Tom Waits noted when Bob Dylan was recently awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, “Before epic tales and poems were ever written down, they migrated on the winds of the human voice and no voice is greater than Dylan’s.” Chevalier’s will celebrate this glorious oral – and aural – origin of literature with a solo set of Dylan songs performed by our very own music-ographer and roots musician extraordinaire Darryl Holter (co-owner of our little book haven). Something is happening here and you DO know what it is, so come in out of that hard rain, Mr. and Ms. Jones, and listen to these songs.

Darryl Holter, a Minnesotan like Bob Dylan, was one of the young Americans Springsteen is talking about. Dylan began performing his songs when he was a student at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis in the early 1960s. Darryl Holter heard Dylan’s songs when he was in high school and quickly learned the early Dylan discography. Now Darryl revisits his own musical roots with a set of Dylan songs from the 60s and 70s that propelled Dylan to his iconic status as the singer-songwriter of the 20th century.

Darryl Holter, co-author of Woody Guthrie LA, 1937-1941, grew up playing the guitar and singing country and rock and roll songs in Minneapolis. As a child, his early influences were Elvis and Johnny Cash, then Bob Dylan; folk-rock and country-rock. His current brand of Americana Music draws from country, blues and folk traditions. In 2008 he formed “213 Music” and launched his first self-titled album of original songs. Subsequently, he has released three albums: West Bank Gone, Crooked Hearts and Radio Songs. Besides his music, Holter has worked as an academic, a labor leader, an urban revitalization planner, and an entrepreneur.
